Meimei Privacy Policy
Last Updated: August 30, 2025
Meimei ("Meimei", "we", "our" or the "Application"), developed by the Meimei Team, is the operator of the
website Meimei and its subdomains (the "Website"), the Meimei application and any related functionality
(collectively, the "Meimei Services").
This Privacy Policy explains how Meimei processes any personal data collected by visitors and users of
our website and any applications and services related to the website. We would like to provide you with
information about the nature, scope, and purpose of our data collection and usage, so that you can gain
insight into the processing of your personal data.
You may share personal information when using Meimei services. For example, you provide information about
yourself during account creation. Another example is when you perform certain actions on Meimei services
that are public or intended to be public, such as broadcasting content, posting profile information, or
following channels. Given the social nature of certain Meimei services, this information may be
collected, used, or disclosed by others participating in those social interactions. Furthermore, certain
features of Meimei services are designed to provide others with information about user activity, such as
a user's activity status or the user's subscription status to a particular channel. We encourage you to
be mindful of this when considering your activity on Meimei services.
1. Controller
- Controller: The controller of the data processing is Meimei. You can contact us by e-mail at the
e-mail address below.
- Data Protection Officer: Our Data Protection Officer can be contacted via the email address given
below. If you have any questions about the processing of your personal data, please feel free to
contact him/her.
2. What Information We Collect
This Privacy Policy applies to the websites, applications and other services we operate. We process
personal data that you provide to us as a user of our products (such as through the use of our products)
and personal data that users provide to us ("Data").
Without some data about you—such as basic profile details and the types of people you want to meet—we
can't help you build meaningful connections. We also collect information generated when you use our
services (e.g., access logs) and information from third parties (e.g., when you access our services
through social media accounts). If you'd like to learn more, we've listed more details below.
2.1 The Data You Give Us
You choose to provide us with certain information when you use our services. This includes:
- Registration information: Such as your date of birth, email (or phone number, where applicable),
password, user identifier, and language.
- Profile information: Such as your alias, profile picture, gender, hometown, self-introduction,
social media information, education, and occupation.
- Required Information: You must provide us with certain information to register with us.
- User-generated content ("UGC"): Such as comments, text, messages, pictures, images, videos, sounds,
code or other data/materials that you upload, distribute or stream on the App when using the Meimei
Services.
- Facial Data: For example, if you use a real-life headshot for authentication, we will collect your
headshot and facial recognition video for real-life headshot verification (with your consent) by
comparing them. This verification protects you from imposters and fake accounts, or enhances the
authenticity of the Meimei service. We do not retain your facial recognition video on our servers;
it is used only for verification.
- Optional Information: Some information is optional during registration, and you can add or delete it
later (e.g., pictures). You can allow us to access your camera or photo album.
- Payment and Subscription Information: We use payment providers (e.g., Apple, Google) to process
payments. When you subscribe to a paid service or purchase directly from us, you provide information
to our payment provider or us—such as your debit/credit card number or other financial information.
While we do not store any credit card information ourselves, we do store the payment ID number
provided by the respective provider (which can be assigned to an individual), as well as your
subscription term, price, currency, VAT (based on country information), and payment provider.
- Information collected when you participate in our promotions, events or competitions (the
information you use to register or enter).
- Information collected when you contact our customer service team (e.g., information used to verify
your account or resolve your feedback/complaint).
- Information collected when you participate in in-app surveys and activities (e.g., your insights
into our products/services, answers to our questions, or feedback).
2.2 Data from Others
In addition to the information you provide directly to us, we may obtain additional information from
third parties and sources outside of the Meimei service. For example:
- Registration via social media: You can use a social media login (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google, etc.) to
create and log in to your account. We will receive your first and last name, email address, gender,
and profile picture.
- Other partners: We may receive information about you from our partners—for example, where Meimei
advertising is published on partners’ websites and platforms (in which case they may pass on details
of the campaign’s success).
- Other users: Other users may provide information about you when they use our Services. For example,
if another user contacts us about you, we may collect information about you from them.
2.3 Data Collected When You Use Our Services
When you use our Services, we collect information about which features you use, how you use them, and the
device you use to access our Services. For more details, see below:
-
Usage Information: We collect information about your activities on our Services,
such as:
- How you use them (e.g., the dates and times you log in, the features you have been using,
searches, clicks, pages displayed to you, referring web page addresses).
- How you interact with other users (e.g., users you connect and interact with, the times and
dates of interactions, the number of messages you send and receive).
-
Device Information: We collect information about the devices you use to access our
Services, including:
- Hardware and software information: Such as IP address, device ID and type, specific device
and application settings/characteristics, application crashes, advertising IDs (e.g.,
Google’s AAID and Apple’s IDFA—both are randomly generated numbers that you can reset via
your device settings), browser type/version/language, operating system, time zone, and
identifiers associated with cookies or other technologies that may uniquely identify your
device or browser (e.g., IMEI/UDID and MAC address).
- Information about your wireless and mobile network connections: Such as your service
provider and signal strength.
- Information about device sensors: Such as the accelerometer, gyroscope, and compass.
- Other information with your consent: If you allow us to do so, we may collect your
geographic location (latitude and longitude) through various means (depending on the service
and device you use, including GPS or Wi-Fi connection). If you explicitly permit such
collection, your geographic location may be collected in the background even when you are
not using the service. If you refuse, we will not collect it.
-
Cookies: These are small pieces of data that enable us to provide certain features.
They are collected by us or our business partners to measure and understand the pages you click on
and how you use Meimei Services—thereby enhancing your experience with Meimei Services. The basis
for processing data through cookies is our legitimate interests. We use and may allow others to use
cookies and similar technologies (e.g., web beacons, pixels) to recognize you and/or your device.
3. How We Use Your Information
We only use your personal information as permitted by applicable law. Generally, we use your personal
information for the following purposes:
- To provide Meimei Services and their content to you (including any interactive features on the
Meimei Services), and to provide you with the information, products, or services you allow us to
provide. We also collect and use personal information to verify your eligibility and fulfill prizes
in promotions and sweepstakes.
- Improving Services: To improve and personalize our Services by providing new services, information,
suggestions, and feedback.
- Customer management: To manage Registered Users’ accounts, provide Registered Users with customer
support and notifications regarding their accounts/subscriptions, and notifications regarding
changes to the Meimei Services or any other products/services we offer through them.
- Communications: To communicate and interact directly with you—for example, we may send notifications
about upcoming changes, promotions, or improvements to Meimei Services.
- Content review: To review images, graphics and content posted or generated on the Meimei Services,
ensuring we comply with applicable content regulations in relevant jurisdictions.
- Content customization: To conduct research and analysis about your use of or interest in the
content, products, advertising, or services available on the Meimei Services—so as to develop and
display content tailored to your interests on our websites and applications.
- Performance analysis: To determine whether users of the Meimei Service are unique or whether the
same user uses the Meimei Service multiple times, and to monitor aggregate metrics (e.g., total
number of visitors, number of videos viewed, demographic patterns).
- Functionality and security: To identify users who do not meet age restrictions, diagnose or fix
technical issues, and detect, prevent, and respond to actual or potential fraud, illegal activity,
or intellectual property infringement.
- Compliance: To enforce our Terms of Use and comply with our legal obligations.
- Aggregation: To aggregate information we collect about you to achieve one or more of the purposes
listed above.
3.1 Cookies
We and our suppliers/service providers use cookies and other similar technologies (e.g., web beacons,
Flash cookies, etc.) ("Cookies") to automatically collect information, measure and analyze the pages you
click on and how you use the Platform, enhance your experience with the Platform, and improve our
services.
Cookies are small files placed on your device to enable the Platform to provide certain features and
functionality. Web beacons are very small images or small pieces of data embedded in an image (also
known as "pixel tags" or "clear GIFs") that can recognize cookies, the time and date of a page view, a
description of the page where the pixel tag is placed, and similar information from your computer or
device.
By using the Platform, you consent to our use of cookies.
In addition, we may link your contact or subscription information with your activity across all devices
on our platform—including using your email, other login information, or device information. We are not
responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties, and their information practices are not
covered by this Privacy Policy.
You can refuse or disable cookies by adjusting your browser settings. Since each browser’s settings are
different, please refer to the instructions provided by your browser (e.g., Chrome, Safari, Firefox). Note that you may need to take additional
steps to refuse or disable certain types of cookies. Additionally, your opt-out options are specific to
the browser/device you use when you opt out—so you may need to opt out separately for each
browser/device. If you choose to refuse, disable, or delete cookies, you may no longer be able to use
certain features of the Platform.
Note that we may process your personal information for a variety of lawful grounds, depending on the
specific purpose for which we are using it.
4. Sharing of Personal Data
4.1 With Other Users
When you voluntarily disclose information on the Services (including your public profile), you share that
information with other users. Please be careful with your information and ensure the content you share
is publicly viewable by you—because once you share your information, neither you nor we can control what
others do with it.
If you choose to limit the audience for all or part of your profile or certain content/information about
you, it will be visible according to your settings.
4.2 With Our Service Providers and Partners
We share your information with third parties who help us provide and improve our products (e.g.,
maintenance, analytics, auditing, payments, fraud detection, marketing, development). Service providers
will have access to your information only as reasonably necessary to perform these tasks on our behalf,
and they are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.
We use processors such as Appsflyer, Google, Facebook, Amazon Web Services, Inc., or Zendesk, Inc.
4.3 For Corporate Transactions
We may transfer your data if we are involved in a merger, sale, acquisition, divestiture, restructuring,
reorganization, dissolution, bankruptcy, or other change in ownership or control (in whole or in part).
4.4 When Required by Law
We may disclose your data as reasonably necessary to:
- Comply with legal process (e.g., a court order, subpoena, search warrant), a government/law
enforcement investigation, or other legal requirement.
- Assist in the prevention or detection of crime (in each case, subject to applicable law).
- Protect the safety of any person.
4.5 To Enforce Legal Rights
We may also share data to:
- Mitigate our liability in actual or threatened litigation.
- Protect our legal rights and the legal rights of our users, business partners, or other parties.
- Enforce our agreements with you.
- Investigate, prevent, or take other action regarding illegal activity, suspected fraud, or other
misconduct.
4.6 With Your Consent or at Your Request
We may ask for your consent to share your data with third parties. In any case, we will clearly explain
why we are sharing the information.
In any of the above situations, we may use and share non-personal data (i.e., data that does not identify
you by itself—such as device information, general demographics, general behavioral data, and geolocation
in de-identified form) as well as personal information in hashed, non-human-readable form.
We may also share this information with other third parties (particularly advertisers) to develop and
deliver targeted advertising on our products or third-party applications, and to analyze and report on
the ads you see. We may combine this data with other non-personal information collected from other
sources or with personal data in hashed, non-human-readable form.
5. Links to Other Websites or Applications
When you click on a link to any other website, mobile application, or third-party content through the
Meimei Services, you will be redirected to that website or mobile application, and other entities may
collect information from or about you. We do not control, review, or assume any responsibility for these
third-party websites, mobile applications, or their content. Note that the terms of this Privacy Policy
do not apply to these third-party websites, mobile applications, or content—nor do they apply to any
information collected after you click on a link to such third-party platforms.
6. Data Storage Time and Data Security
6.1 Storage Period
We store your data for as long as you are a registered user of the product. Beyond that, we only store
the data for as long as legally necessary (due to warranty, limitation, or retention periods) or as
otherwise required.
6.2 Account Deletion
If you decide to delete your account, all data we have about you will be deleted, except for the
following:
- Any details you made public (e.g., comments on other registered users' activities, gifts you shared,
etc.) will be anonymized—i.e., it will be clear that such details were provided by a deleted user.
- Any data required to fulfill contractual obligations or comply with statutory retention obligations
will not be deleted, but will be reduced to the minimum possible scope.
- A deletion request will not affect data that must be stored for legal reasons (e.g., for accounting
purposes).
6.3 Data Security
We implement appropriate administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your
personal information from unauthorized access and disclosure. For example:
- Only authorized employees are permitted to access personal information, and they may do so only for
permitted business functions.
- We use encryption technology when transmitting certain of your personal information between your
systems and ours.
- We use firewalls to help prevent unauthorized access to your personal information.
However, please note that we cannot completely eliminate security risks associated with the storage and
transmission of your personal information. You should exercise caution when submitting information
through the Meimei Services and be particularly careful about what information you provide to us.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and account information at all
times.
7. Purpose of Using Device Permissions
7.1 Album Permissions
- Usage: This permission primarily allows you to upload personal photos as profile pictures and share
photos in your personal feeds, chats, and other scenarios. For example, you will need album access
to update your profile picture to a more personalized one or share an interesting photo in a chat
with a friend.
- Scope of Permissions and How to Obtain Them: For one-time photo uploads (e.g., setting an avatar,
publishing dynamic images), we follow Google Store policies and use the system photo picker (e.g.,
the Android photo picker). This method does not require broad access to your entire album— the app
will only obtain temporary access to a specific photo when you actively select it.
- Data Processing: We use the photos we obtain only for the functional purposes you specify. We will
not process them for other purposes (e.g., background scanning for advertising recommendations)
without your consent. We will store (e.g., upload to our servers for display in your profile or
dynamics), display, and transmit the photos according to your operational instructions. After you
delete the relevant photo content, we will also delete the corresponding photo data stored on our
servers within a reasonable period of time in accordance with data lifecycle guidelines.
7.2 Microphone Permissions
- Usage: Microphone permission supports Meimei services such as voice/video chat and voice message
recording. For example, the app will request microphone access when you make a voice/video call with
a friend or record a voice message to quickly express your thoughts.
- When to Obtain Permission: We will only request microphone permission when you actively click to
initiate a voice/video chat or start recording a voice message. We will not turn on the microphone
in the background without your permission.
- Data Processing: Recorded voice data is used only to implement the functions you initiate (e.g.,
sending it to chat partners or using voice/video features). It will not be used for any other
purpose without your authorization. We also implement security measures (e.g., encryption) to
protect the security of voice data during transmission and storage, preventing data leakage.
7.3 Clipboard Permissions
- Purpose: Obtaining clipboard permissions mainly facilitates text pasting when using Meimei
services—such as pasting copied text content into the chat input box or pasting previously copied
information when filling out a form.
- Permission Acquisition and Use Time: The app will only read clipboard contents when you actively
perform a paste operation. It will not continuously monitor the clipboard in the background or read
clipboard content without your permission. Furthermore, the app will only read clipboard contents
related to the current operation and will not access other irrelevant information.
- Data Processing: The clipboard text is used solely to complete the paste operation you initiate. It
will not be processed or stored. After the paste operation is completed, the app will not retain
clipboard content, ensuring your privacy is protected.
7.4 Notification Permissions
- Usage: Notification permissions are used to push important messages to you—such as new message
alerts from friends, system notifications (e.g., app update prompts), and updates on events you
follow. This ensures you do not miss important information related to you. For example, you will
receive a notification when a friend sends you a message or when an online event you are
participating in has new progress.
- Permission Acquisition and Management: When you install or first use the Meimei service, you will be
asked to grant notification permission, and you can choose to allow or deny it. If you allow it, you
can also personalize the type and method of notifications (e.g., sound, vibration, pop-up) at any
time through the app settings or your device’s system settings.
- Notification Content Processing: Push notifications only contain information related to Meimei
services and will not include unauthorized advertisements or other irrelevant content. We will
strictly protect the security of notification content to prevent malicious access or tampering by
third parties.
7.5 Bluetooth Permissions
- Purpose: Obtaining Bluetooth permissions is mainly used to connect to specific Bluetooth devices
(e.g., Bluetooth headsets) to enable data interaction with these devices. For example, you need
Bluetooth permissions to use a Bluetooth headset to play our content or conduct voice/video chats.
- Permission Acquisition: The app will only request Bluetooth permissions when you actively initiate
an operation to connect to a specific Bluetooth device or when the Meimei service detects that you
have a clear need for such a connection.
- Data Processing: Data collected via Bluetooth is only used for purposes related to device
functionality and will not be used for unrelated purposes. We encrypt data transmitted via Bluetooth
to ensure data security during transmission and prevent it from being stolen or tampered with by
third parties.
7.6 Location Permissions
- Usage Description: Location permission is mainly used to implement location-based services. At the
same time, to support Bluetooth headset calling functions, location permission is required on
devices running Android 12 or lower to discover Bluetooth devices. This data is only used for device
connection and will not involve the collection or upload of geographic location information.
- Permission Acquisition and Mode Selection: We will explicitly request location permission when you
first use a service that requires location functionality. The app will not continue to collect your
location information when you are not using the relevant location-based services.
- Data Processing: The collected location data is only used to provide the services explicitly
disclosed above. Your location information will not be disclosed to third parties for advertising or
other unauthorized purposes. When you turn off the location feature or stop using related
location-based services, the app will stop collecting and using your location information.
8. What Rights Do You Have?
We want you to have control over your information, so we provide you with the following tools:
8.1 In-Service Access/Update Tools
Tools and account settings allow you to directly access, correct, or delete the information you have
provided to us that is associated with your account within the service. If you have any questions about
these tools or settings, please contact our customer service team for assistance.
8.2 Device Permissions Management
Mobile platforms have a permission system for certain types of device data and notifications (e.g.,
location services, push notifications). You can adjust your device settings to consent to or object to
the collection of such information or the display of such notifications.
If you do not want to share your mobile device’s GPS location, microphone, camera, or other similar
features, you can turn them off. You can also hide your location, uploaded videos, recent activity time,
and other information by adjusting the "Privacy" settings. Of course, some services may lose full
functionality if you do this.
8.3 Account Deletion
You can delete your account directly through the corresponding function within the service.
8.4 Key Reminders About Your Rights
- Reviewing Your Information: Applicable privacy laws may grant you the right to review the personal
information we hold about you (depending on the jurisdiction, this may be referred to as the right
of access, the right of portability, or the right to modify terms). If you wish to request a copy of
your personal information, please contact our Customer Service Team for assistance.
- Updating Your Information: If you believe the information we hold about you is inaccurate, or that
we are no longer entitled to use it, and you wish to request correction, deletion, or object to its
processing, please contact our Customer Service Team.
- Identity Verification for Requests: For your protection and the protection of all our users, we may
ask you to provide proof of identity before responding to the above requests.
- Possible Denial of Requests: Please note that we may deny a request for certain reasons—including if
the request is illegal, or if it may violate another user’s trade secrets, intellectual property
rights, or privacy. If you wish to receive information related to another user (e.g., a copy of
messages you received from them through our Services), the other user must contact our Privacy
Officer to provide written consent before such information can be released.
- Limitations on Objecting to Processing: Additionally, we may not be able to accommodate certain
requests to object to the processing of personal information—especially if such requests would make
it impossible for us to provide services to you.
- Uninstalling the App: You can use your device’s standard uninstall process to uninstall the App and
stop all information collection. If you uninstall the App from your mobile device, the unique
identifier associated with your device will continue to be stored. If you reinstall the App on the
same mobile device, we will be able to re associate this identifier with your previous transactions
and activity.
- Lodging Complaints: In some countries (including the EU), you have the right to lodge a complaint
with the appropriate data protection authority (e.g., EDPB for EU) if you have concerns about how we
process your personal information. The data protection authority with which you can lodge a
complaint may be the one in your place of habitual residence, place of work, or the location where
we are based.
9. Child Safety
You must be at least 18 years of age to use our services. We do not intentionally collect personal
information from individuals when they use our services, but we may collect age data to confirm
compliance with our application usage standards. If we inadvertently collect personal information from
users under the age of 18, such data will be immediately deleted from our database, and this will also
result in the user’s account being blocked. Therefore, we recommend that individuals under the age of 18
do not use our services.
If you encounter suspected child sexual abuse material (CSAM) while using this app, please use the app’s
report feature to notify us. Our product support team is available 24/7 to process your report quickly.
Additionally, our product support team will report any confirmed instances of CSAM to the National Center for
Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
10. Further Important Information
We make every effort to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, alteration,
disclosure, or destruction. Like all technology companies, while we take measures to protect your
information, we cannot promise—and you should not expect—that your personal information will always be
completely secure.
We regularly monitor our systems to check for potential vulnerabilities and attacks, and we periodically
review our information collection, storage, and processing practices to update our physical, technical,
and organizational security measures.
If we suspect or detect a security breach, we may suspend your access to all or part of the Services
without prior notice. If you believe your account or information is no longer secure, please notify us
immediately through our Customer Service.
11. Privacy Policy Changes
We may modify or amend this Privacy Policy from time to time. Although we may attempt to notify you when
significant changes are made to this Privacy Policy, you should periodically review the most up-to-date
version available on the Meimei Services to stay informed of any changes— as these changes will be
binding on you.
12. How to Contact Us
12.1 Data Protection Officer
If we make material changes to this Policy, we will notify you by posting the revised Privacy Policy or
providing a notice on our website, or as required by law. You agree to review the Privacy Policy
periodically to stay informed of any modifications. You agree that your continued use of the Service
after we post the revised Privacy Policy or provide a notice on our website will constitute your
acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the terms of the Privacy Policy, you
should not use the Service.
12.2 Contact Information
If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or our data processing
practices, please feel free to contact us through the following channels:
